Major Nelson has clarified that with hardware he was referring specifically to “bundles [console packs] and accessories.” He has regretted the error on his part and says he has updated the body and the headline of the news to reflect this change.
This was an error on my side. I corrected my blog post & noted that it has been updated in the title and the body. Xbox Wire had it accurate. To be clear, we've got bundle and accessory news at @gamescom. See you there Tom?

ORIGINAL NOTICE (07/18/2018)
Microsoft has announced that it will show “new hardware and accessories for Xbox” at Gamescom this year.
We do not expect it to be, of course, the announcement of a new console, despite the fact that Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, confirmed at E3 that they were working “on new consoles”.
And what can be treated, then? Most likely it is the new version of the Elite command, Xbox Elite 2, whose details have already been leaked for quite some time. According to these rumors the command would have a USB-C port for charging and Bluetooth, among other functions.
But, of course, it could be something else entirely, or even several. For the rest, the Gamescom should serve us to see how the new exclusives of the company progress, such as Crackdown 3, Ori and the Will of Wisps and others.
The Inside Xbox special will be available on Tuesday, August 21, at 4:30 p.m.
