Currently the offer in the market of “gaming mosue” is very broad and if it is already difficult to choose which one we want, the harder it is then to take full advantage of each gaming mouse . For that I have collected information, mine included, from different players, both professional and amateur, in different types of games.
We are going to structure all the content, but trying to summarize the most important thing so as not to get involved and that is easy to use.
The first step is “the Gaming mouse” that we are going to use. Well, what can we say about the mice, the first thing to throw down that myth that what matters is the driver and not the car, that is, it is clear that if a player is good he will do a lot for himself, but with a good mouse in the hand even more. So what should we know about a good mouse?
Perhaps the most important are the so famous DPIs . And what does DPI mean? Points per inch, that is, the number of points that a mouse can recognize at a certain distance, the greater the number of points in the same measure, the more DPI’s.
Example: If at 800 DPIs in a space of 1 cm of screen it travels 1000 points, to 2000 DPI’s in a space of 1 cm it travels 5000 points.
This makes it easier for the mouse to pass through more points, you will also notice that it moves faster because you go through more points.
So, if I have a 4000 DPI mouse, I put it to the maximum and better not? Well, not at all. The answer has a trick, this is like very powerful cars, there are 100, 200 and 500 horses, because the mice also have 1000, 1600, 2000, 4000 and 6000 DPI’s, but if you do not have a road to run with your 500 horse car, what good is it? Here it goes a bit the same, high DPI mice like 6000 DPI are suitable for people who play on large monitors, 24 inches up, while 4000 DPI mice work well with smaller monitors. Like everything, it goes in points-by-inch ratio, the more inches the monitor has, the more the mouse will have to travel.
Therefore we will have to adjust our DPI’s depending on the size of our screen and the sensitivity of the pointer in the game. It is recommended that the FPS are not exorbitant and always lower the sensitivity of the game itself to the minimum or to almost null values.
Then we can also find other concepts in mice such as:
- The FPS , which are Megapixels per second.
- The ” G ” which is the maximum acceleration that our mouse reaches, G1, G2, G3 …
- USB Report Rate , which is the reports per second.
- The weight , the size of the cable , the frequency or response time.
All these concepts that you can see in the specifications of a mouse can not be ignored, because our mouse depends on them .
Well, if you look at the features a bit and already knowing what DPIs are, we will help you to configure your mouse.
Depending on the mouse you have may bring configuration drivers or not, even that has an internal memory that allows the storage of predesigned profiles by us so that we can take them stored inside the mouse to be able to use it with that configuration on any PC without need for extra software.
Let’s start from that you have a mouse with DPI selector on the fly, which is a little button that allows you to change the speed of the mouse.
We assume that you will be thinking about what are the appropriate settings for the games. Well first of all we will tell you that people will recommend that for Windows , Linux , MAC , you use some lower profiles and for games, others higher . That’s fine, but the experience itself tells me that it’s a pain in the ass to change every bit, so once you get used to a speed, it’s better to leave it on.
So our recommendation is that, once you have been testing different DPI’s modes until you reach a number between 1600 and 3000 , you adjust them according to your player profile. If you usually play MMO games , strategy etc., use DPI’s between 1600 and 2600 , they will be enough. Now that if yours are the shots or the games in the first person, the ideal is to raise those DPI’s to the maximumthat you are able to handle without much trouble (remember that if you try from the beginning the top of DPI’s you will dizzy fixed and you will not be able to play) and lower the sensitivity to the minimum. To give you an idea I play Call of Duty 4 with a Razer Mamba that allows about 6400 DPI’s and with a sensitivity of 1 in the game.
1st – You have to identify yourself as a gamer of FPS games (in first person) or strategy, MMO, etc … If you are of the first high DPI’s, if you are of the second DPI’s medium-high.
2nd – Gradually increase the speed of the DPI’s . Never play to the maximum from the beginning and as we go up the DPI’s going down the sensitivity to reach either the top of the mouse in DPI’s and sensitivity of the game 0, or our top.
3rd – As soon as we have our speed controlled, believe me getting used to it is a week at the most and then to enjoy the precision stop, we can play with the weight system of our mouse
EYE: This only works for the mice that have a weight system , and are used in the following way to more DPI’s, more weight the mouse must have.
Other tips for your gamer mouse
If you have to configure the speed of response , which usually comes in Hz , always put the highest one, that is, the highest there is is 1000MHz which is equivalent to 1milsecond response, which is what it would take your mouse to react when you click.
It can also favor the use that the mouse has surfers (which are the legs by which the mouse rests to slide) well preserved.
Depending on the type of mouse better to use some mats or other.
If the mouse is a ball better to change it, the ball mice are out of phase .
If the mouse is optical use cloth mats , rubber
If the mouse is Laser Use rigid mats and some cloth (but with restrictions, better black colors)
With these small tips we will improve, over time, in the handling of our mouse gamer , we will acquire precision when playing and we will be able to improve our competitive level.
NOTE: for all players who still have CRT monitors , it is recommended not to go above 1600 DPI’s
